Weco's team working on Kaizen 2.0 wave energy device.
Weco confirmed the progress through a statement: “Last week we successfully performed our first full assembly of the new Kaizen 2.0 and dry-tested our power take-off unit and control system at Holland Shipyards Group. With some small upgrades and a fresh paint job in the coming weeks Kaizen 2.0 will soon be ready for its first offshore installation.” The company highlighted that the next phase will focus on preparing the device for deployment at sea.
The offshore installation of Kaizen 2.0 is planned for the near future. Weco expressed optimism about this next stage: “As autumn is rolling in and waves start to get bigger, we are excited for the upcoming steps in validating the system.” This period will provide favorable conditions to test the device in real marine environments and assess its performance under stronger wave activity.
Kaizen 2.0 follows an earlier prototype developed by Weco and is designed with several enhancements based on prior testing. The improvements are expected to strengthen efficiency, reliability, and durability in offshore conditions. In July, Weco moved into the construction phase of Kaizen 2.0 in partnership with Holland Shipyards Group.
